Model United Nations Stipends
Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs offers stipends, in the form of reimbursements for incurred costs, for HRHA minors competing with the Model United Nations team at national Model United Nations competitions. These stipends are designed to defray the costs of participating at Model UN and make Model UN accessible to all our students. Stipends are typically $500. Beginning in 2018, applications for the HRHA Model UN stipend are due by January 31 each year.
Graduate Opportunities
Dr. Joseph Elston Fellowship
The Dr. Joseph Elston Fellowship recognizes excellence in graduate research in human rights and political science. The recipient receives a $1500 fellowship to support their research. The Elston Fellow is expected to contribute to and attend programs sponsored by Political Science and the Forsythe Family Program on Human Rights during their fellowship year.
Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Travel Grants
The HRHA program is pleased to be able to support our graduate students with $750 for research-related travel. Awards are offered on a competitive basis. Due to the way that COVID-19 has impacted travel, graduate students can also apply to these grants to cover costs of attending virtual conferences or virtual research opportunities.
Mary McClymont Graduate Award for Research on Forced Migration
This award, of up to $1500, supports graduate students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln conducting research on forced migration. Students with a graduate specialization in Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs will be prioritized in the application review process, but graduate students outside of the specialization are also invited to apply.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and CV to Dr. Courtney Hillebrecht at chillebrecht2@unl.edu. The cover letter should describe the project and the use of award funds. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
