Tory Roubidoux

Tory Roubidoux recently graduated from UNL with a double major in Global Studies and Political Science and a minor in Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (HRHA). She was inspired to pursue the HRHA minor after taking Liberalism and Its Critics with Dr. Ari Kohen and International Human Rights with Dr. Courtney Hillebrecht. Tory shared how the HRHA minor helped her grow as a technical, methodological, and persuasive writer.

Inspired by her coursework, she wrote her final paper on “The Media’s Role in Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls” and was offered the opportunity to further develop it for an academic journal. Reflecting on the impact of the program, Tory shared, “My HRHA courses were easily the most dynamic and relevant ones I took at UNL. If you’re looking for a minor that will challenge you intellectually and prepare you professionally, I truly believe the HRHA program delivers on both fronts.”

Speaking about her experience, Tory shared how the program opened up numerous opportunities for her.

Tory interned at Lutheran Family Services, this experience shaped Tory’s future career goals,

“My HRHA internship at Lutheran Family Services introduced me to new experiences and opened my eyes to potential career paths. Several staff members had either gone to law school or were planning to, and through our conversations, I came to see how valuable a legal education can be in human rights and advocacy work—even if you don’t end up practicing law.”

Tory is hoping to attend law school in the Fall of 2026; meanwhile, she will be working part-time and volunteering in Omaha.
