Catherine Moe, a Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs minor volunteered at the Center for People. She spent her time with the Opening Doors program, an initiative aimed at assisting incarcerated individuals. Here, she actively assisted with resume building, conducting mock interviews, and guiding them through educational and accreditation programs. Additionally, she also dedicated her time to working at the legal clinic.
Her internship not only equipped Catherine with practical skills but also fostered self-advocacy, enabling her to navigate diverse tasks and build meaningful connections. She played an important role in organizing the Lincoln Felon Landlord List, this experience helped her put herself in other people’s shoes, and ask “If I were to need this list, how would I want it organized?”
Catherine’s passion for advocating for incarcerated individuals, particularly in facilitated access to housing, became evident during her internship. She said it’s her goal to continue her volunteering work in the future. Moreover, her experience helped her to think creatively in challenging situations.
With aspirations for a legal career in public interest, Catherine intends to apply her skills in law school to further advocate for incarcerated individuals. Her experience underscored the importance of volunteering and being compassionate with others.
